How to Have a Happy, Healthy Liver...
Is your Liver Working
Properly? Did you know that without
water your liver can not flush toxins out of the body?
We are 70% water and most people do not consume the correct
amount of water on a daily basis. The
recommended amount is half your body weight, in other words a 180 lbs person
should drink 90 ounces
of water every day.
Your liver “bags up” environmental toxins, like bagging up
the trash, in a two-phase system of enzymes:
Phase One: consists of 50 enzymes that oxidize or reduce
toxins. That is, these enzymes either
add electrons or remove electrons from toxins to give them an electrical
charge.
Phase Two: consists of six different enzymes pathways that
conjugate toxins to various organic compounds.
That simply means that these enzymes attach or join (conjugate) the
electrically-charged toxin which another compound. This makes the toxin water soluble so it can
be flushed from the body via the kidneys or the colon. This is why a good supply of water is helpful
to the liver.
Foods to Enhance
Liver Detoxification
In order to do this job properly these enzymes systems
require a wide variety of nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids
and fatty acids. So, if you’re feeding
your warrior liver a diet of refined and processed foods, don’t be surprised if
it wimps out on you when you need protection from chemical toxins.
It’s also important that your liver gets adequate amount of
antioxidants. This is important because
the detoxification process produces free radicals that can damage the liver if
there aren’t enough antioxidants to protect it while doing its job.
Sour foods are said to tonify the liver. Such as,
unsweetened lemon water, black cherry juice, wolfberry and mangosteen. Thai Go contains many sour fruits that can
tonify your liver and provide the antioxidants it requires.
Dark, green leafy vegetables and onions, garlic and
cruciferous vegetables are also great liver foods.
Constipation and your
liver
Believed to affect 25 percent of the population at any given
time, constipation is different for each individual. It has to do with the hardness of the stool
(bowel movement) rather than how often one is passed. In a healthy individual
one or more movement per day is desirable. The quicker toxins are eliminated
from our body the less time they have to either ferment or cause other
problems.
Over a period of time, a layer of toxic waste products may build up on the lining of the sluggish bowel. This build-up can cause inflammation in the bowel, and the toxins are absorbed from the bowel and travel back to the liver via the portal vein. The liver has to work much harder to break down these internally produced toxins and symptoms of liver dysfunction may result. Thus constipation can lead to headaches, abdominal bloating, fatigue, allergies and skin problems. This is called autointoxication or “a state of being poisoned by toxic substances produced within the body”. I like to call it “Living in your own toxic soup”!
Colon Hydrotherapy and the Liver
Not only will colon hydrotherapy open the pathways to allow the waste to be removed but it hydrates the body as well as allowing the colon wall to heal from years of abuse.
Combining Colon Hydrotherapy, adequate intake of pure clean water and diet changes can and has make dramatic changes toward having a Happy Healthy Liver.
